Phone Calls You Don’t Want to Get
Bonham Cats
Barns for Fall Placement

Relocations and In Take:   We placed 13 this week with in-take at 12.
            1          Shed in Flower Mound
            2          School Ag Barn
2          Backyard in Dallas by SMU
            2          Barn in Sachse
            1          Saved one in Bonham
5          Saved five in Honey Grove

It was quite the week for driving. On Thursday we went from south of Ft. Worth all the way through Dallas to catch the east end of the George Bush Turnpike to get to Sachse.

Phone Calls You Don’t Want to Get:  Remember the parents who are moving to Waxahachie from Oklahoma. Well, mom is working to tame and place all the kittens and there are only 3 adults…great! We can take them after they get vet’ted.

Now there is another situation in Bowie. I have yet to speak with the folks but looks like a group of 10 to 15 cats….ahhhhhhhhhh!

Bonham Cats:  (see above) I am trying to get some funding from a foundation to help underwrite the sterilization of these cats in Bonham and for any other groups in small towns in north / east Texas.  We shall see…

Barns for Fall Placement:  I am finally able to take some locations off this list!!!!!

Potential Cat Poisoning
Bonham Cats
Barns for Fall Placement

Relocations and In Take: We placed 14 this week because the weather finally broke. In-take was at 7. Five of those were from adoption groups that had gotten in unadoptable cats into their programs. Glad we could help out!

4 - Barn in Desoto
3 - Barn in Van Alstyne (historic home with family and slave cemeteries)
3 - Barn in Melissa
2 - Barn in Argyle
2 - Barn in Argyle

Thanks to Neighbor Nancy, Jamie and Donna for helping drive this week. It feels really good to finally get some cats out of the house and to their new homes.

Phone Calls you Don't Want to Get: Remember the lady with stage -4 cancer who is an independent rescuer - well - I never heard back from her friends. Wonder what happened?

Got a new one from Southern Oklahoma - parents are moving to Waxahachie. None are sterilized...oops... If they are moving to the country, maybe I can convince them to move some cats as well.

Potential Cat Poisoning: This is from a problem in Denton. I have now received three cats from this situation. One nursing mom is with a local adoption group and I may get her after the kittens are weaned. These guys are young and rather small. There are four or five left to capture - we shall see.

Bonham Cats: We continue to pay for the spay/neuter of cats coming out of the bonham shelter. There was another male done this week at Dr. Gray's clinic in Trenton. I have told them Barn Cats will pay for the spay/neuter and rabies shots of any cats going to barns, foster care or adoption.

Barns for Fall Placement: I am finally able to take some locations off this list!!!

Potential Cat Poisoning
Barns for Fall Placement

Relocations and In Take:   We placed 7 this week with in-take at 3.
5          Kittens from Van Alstyne to an Adoption Group
2          Barn in Telephone (Thanks to Kelly from Feral Friends for driving to this one!)

Phone Calls You Don’t Want to Get:  I was left a message by a lady whose friend is a rescuer who is in stage-four cancer treatment. They are trying to help place her in-door cats that are both friendly and feral. Well – they basically knew nothing – are they vetted? Where are the records? How many are feral verses friendly? How old are they?  etc., etc., etc.! She came home from the hospital but went back soon because she contracted an infection – cat scratch fever. The ladies wanted to “get rid of the ferals” who made her sick…!  The ferals will hide and run from her – it is the friendly cats that get in your lap and want love that are going to scratch her! They need to take a step back, get with the owner who is still alive, make a list, get the records from whatever vet is involved, and then address placement. Oh yes…she is an “independent” rescuer which means she has no organization to fall back on. There are approximately 25 friendlier cats and 10 to 12 ferals in the house! I am sure she had good intentions but this is going to be a mess for many months to come.

Potential Cat Poisoning:  I received a call from a guy in Denton that a nasty neighbor had put some gooey substance underneath his apartment door, the cats licked it, and started throwing up. So I approved his going to a Denton vet – but he never took them in. Then the next day (Friday) it becomes an emergency – one cat is throwing up and cannot lift its’ head. Well, sounds serious to me but who knows. He does not have transportation…story of my life. So, Nancy and I go to Denton to get the cats and take them to All Care. We are leaving them there over the weekend…but they did not look sick when we took them in. Eyes clear – not lethargic – not dehydrated -- etc, etc. Dr. Jim said we should just “wait and see”. If it had been anti-freeze, they would have been dead in 12 hours and we were WAY beyond that time limit. On Saturday they were not eating well but that could just be stress on being at a vet clinic. Will have to update you on this one next week…

Barns for Fall Placement:  I am keeping a list of potential barns for when the weather changes:
            Flower Mound             Krum                           Celeste                        Weatherford
            Van Alstyne                 Springtown                  Forney
            Desoto                         Bartonville                  Cooper
            Aledo                           Argyle                          Sadler

The bum knee is getting better each day – but will be glad when I can drive again!

Relocations and In Take
July Close-Out
The Phone Call We Like to Get
Barns for Fall Placement

Relocations and In Take:   We placed 8 this week with in-take at 1.
            1          Bonham
5          Kittens to an Adoption Group from
                        Addison Animal Services
2          Caging provided to move 2 from an apartment
                        to a new home

July Close-Out:  It was a pretty good July with 22 placed in 8 counties:
            Collin               Fannin             Parker
            Dallas              Grayson           Tarrant
            Denton            Hood

The Phone Call We Like to Get:  Early in the week, a guy called from a new car dealership that is opening up in Garland. Several years ago, he managed a dealership shop where they were feeding several feral cats. Management said “Get rid of them”. He contacted Kittico who did the trapping and Barn Cats relocated them all together. Well, as you would expect, two months later, the rats moved back in and ate wiring on several vehicles…but…management never got the connection. Now he has a new job and they are re-doing a location that has lots of rat droppings. GET SOME CATS! And this time his management was in agreement. Even better - we can put the cages in air-conditioning. When he calls later this month, I hope to get 6 cats over there. That would be a great thing for August!

Barns for Fall Placement:  I am keeping a list of potential barns for when the weather changes:
            Flower Mound
            Van Alstyne
            Desoto
            Aledo
            Cooper
            Sadler
            Weatherford
            Celeste

We will be placing 60 each month in the fall!  I need to get my bum knee working well before then!

UPDATE
Relocations and In Take
Future In-Take
Barns for Fall Placement

UPDATE:  I have completed complete knee replacement and am trying to get back in the swing of things. However, with each day at 103 or 104, it will be almost impossible to place any cats …. so we are being very careful.

Relocations and In Take:   We placed 4 this week with in-take at 1.
2          Air-conditioned well house in Granbury
            2          Adoption Group

Future In-Take:  I have told 3 people we will take their cats:
1          Found in the middle of the road in a gunny sack near
                        Howe, TX (orange tabby)
            1          Found near Greenville in late May; been hit by a car;
vet clinic did the work but not adoptable
1          About 4-month old with a damaged leg coming from
                        Plano (black)

I hope no other sad stories come in because I have no additional open cages. Geez!

Barns for Fall Placement:  I am keeping a list of potential barns for when the weather changes:
            Flower Mound
            Van Alstyne
            Desoto
