Relocations and In Take
Our Cats after Release
Peanut Butter, the Cat with the Jar on her Head
Calls You Don’t Want to Get
BMG (Bitch – Moan - Groan)
OMG (Oh My God)
Relocations and In Take: This is easy:
1 out and 2 in.
1
Adoption Group
(Bryce)
The 2 that came in are to
go to be garage cats in Flower Mound next week. They wanted friendly cats for around the house and I did not have any in
house….so Jackson and Kokomo will be going to Flower Mound.
Bryce: This is a FABULOUS cat – big, fluffy,
polydactyl in front (paws like catcher mitts!), BUT – Bryce is FIV
positive. When I took Kokomo from the
group, Bryce went to them for adoption. THANK GOD not all groups are afraid of an FIV positive cat. It is passed from deep wound bite or from mom
to kitten – ALSO – if they have ever had the vaccine for FIV, they will ALWAYS
test positive for the rest of their lives. If you don’t know the history on the cat, don’t put it down! Give them a chance for a life! The Barn Cat volunteers will miss Bryce but
this is a great opportunity for him!
Our Cats after Release:
1.
Desoto – Maggie
and Grace went to this barn. Maggie got
up in a tall tree and they had to us a tall ladder to get her down. Grace is hanging out between the walls of the
barn – usually mice there. I saw Maggie
but not Grace. There was another cat
there, too.

2. New Fairview – Glen
and Smokey went to this barn. I did not
see them but the barn owner sees them at dust…prime time for ferals. This barn has one other of out cats from 5
years ago!
Peanut Butter: Remember this cat from last week… She had a jar on her head. We put her in a fund raising letter that went
out at 5 pm on Friday afternoon. On
Saturday afternoon, less than 24 hours later, a barn owner called and she will
be getting a new home next week in Rockwall. The tack room is air conditioned! GEEZ! What a great opportunity
for little Peanut Butter!
Calls You Don’t Want to Get: “I am moving tomorrow. Can you take my cats?” NO – and besides they are pets then you need an adoption groups and Barn Cats is not an adoption group. Then they try and lay a guilt trip on you – “They will be killed on Monday if you don’t take them.” Well – you should have started trying to place them sooner. This blood is on your hands. The best one – “I am moving to Europe on Monday.” You know – how long does it take to MOVE TO EUROPE? Taking care of your cats was certainly not a priority.
BMG: There was a dog diagnosed with rabies this week in
Little Elm – just across the lake from us.
The dog bit 5 members of the same family. They blamed the spread of the disease on
feral cats that come into the backyard. WELL – Hey Channel 11: Why was
that dog NOT VACINATED FOR RABIES? If
you go to the Texas Department of Health website and search on rabies, you can
see that Denton County has had 9 confirmed cases of rabies this year but NONE
were in cats: 7 skunks, 1 fox, and 1
bull. Last year there were 25 total and
broken down as follows:
18 Skunks 3
cats 1 dog 1 raccoon 1 bat 1
cow
Look at the numbers – did
that dog come into contact with a rabid skunk?
If you do TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return), all those feral cats would have been
sterilized with a RABIES SHOT! (more
fuel to support TNR for all cities)
OMG: With this extreme heat, I am turning away many, many
cats. I hope their care givers
understand the situation and re-connect with Barn Cats in September. We will be placing 50 to 60 each month in the
FALL – but now, virtually NOTHING.
Thanks for following the
Barn Cats blog. See you next week! Peg
