I'm afraid I've had some technical issues recently and some scheduling conflicts, so I'm woefully behind helping Peggy with things like getting the blog posted. My sincerest apologies. Watch for me to get all that caught up this weekend!!

Our Cats after Release
Calls You Don’t Want to Get

OMG (Oh My God)
Relocations and In Take: Placed 1 with intake at 2.

Our Cats after Release: Flower Mound –
I placed Kokomo and Jackson in a garage in Flower Mound. After release, Kokomo is “around” and Jackson
was staying in the garage. Well, when I
called to pick up equipment, they asked me to take Jackson back because their
youngest son is allergic. WOW – did not
see that one coming. So Jackson came
back here on Friday evening. Saturday I
spoke with a lady in Plano that needs a backyard cat and Jackson is a good fit. OK – new digs for Jackson!
Calls You Don’t Want to Get:
1.
Received an email that was not clear what was
needed…so asked the lady to call me.
Well, still not clear but there is a mom with several kittens that are
now 4 months old. No one is sterilized
or had any vet work at all. She is in a
small town but there is a spay/neuter clinic close by. One of the feral kittens got caught under the
hood of her car and the fan belt tore off one of its’ front legs. OUCH!
I asked her when she took that cat in to a vet after the accident, why
she did not have it neutered. WELL –
you guessed it – she never took it in – which means that leg has healed on its
own! That poor kitty! She cannot afford to get the work done so we
will help with that in mid-September. I
hope to get that 3-legged cat off the streets soon.
2.
There is a mess on a circle street in
Sherman. Someone is killing cats there
(being selective – pregnant cats) and one of the ladies that lives on that
street wants to save 2 or 3 kittens.
This was a tough conversation because she does not make a distinction
between cage, carrier, and trap…I have expressed my dismay on this topic in a
previous BLOG. I finally had her write
it down. If she goes into Lowe’s and
asked for a cage, we are DEAD MEAT. She
needs a TRAP – not a cage! GOOD
LUCK!
3.
There is a mess at an elderly man’s house in
Argyle. There are maybe 75 cats (have
not seen them) and he needs food. FOOD –
he needs spay/neuter and should have done something way BEFORE NOW! I went to Lowe’s and purchased 4 traps for
this project and left them on a neighbor’s porch. Someone else had left some food on the porch
and the cats had already broken into 4 bags.
GEEZ! I was going to give her
some checks to use at TCAP but she was not home. It appears that the ARF folks are going to
provide some spay/neuter as well. What a
mess! FOLKS: If you know something is going on with some
elderly person, get it stopped before it get out of hand! It would have been a lot easier to
spay/neuter 2 cats BEFORE it turned into 75.
BMG: Barn
Owner called. The cat we gave her got
sick “after” release and she spent $200 on the cat. Now that cat is living in the wooded area on
her property but not in the barn. SO
--- SHE GETS TWO KITTENS “If I raise them around the barn, they will stay” –
Hummm! They are now 3 or 4 months old
and she wants us to PAY FOR THE SPAY and NEUTER OF THE TWO KITTENS BECAUSE SHE
SPENT MONEY ON THE CAT THAT DID NOT STAY IN THE BARN! WHAT? Several problems here:
a. When
the cats are released at the barn site – if they do not stay around – we have
no control over that cat
b. You
do not know if that the original cat is not coming in to eat – he is still on
the property
c. You
do not know that these “kittens” may get carried off by a hawk someday after we
have spent money getting them fixed.
So – we WILL do the spay and the neuter in mid-September
at Cause for Paws – if the “kittens” are still alive at that time – GEEZ – when
you think you have heard it all, something else happens!!
OMG: This
is Fluffy (he came in with that name).
He is feral as the day is long…hiss, hiss. He has a cage in the new cat room in the
corner with 2 windows! Looks like he is
doing fine!
Looking at the 10 day
forecast, there may be a break in the 100 degree temps so I can get some cats
out of the house. Keep your paws
crossed!
Thanks for following the
Barn Cats blog. See you next week! Peg
