Rescue
Girlfriend and Cindy were
“friends” from their previous location in Fort Worth where there shelter is now
just a pile of dirt. They were trapped
separately over a week apart so I did not know if they would recognize each
other. When available, I put them in
cages side by side in the cat room and caught them “talking to each other” one
afternoon. In Bells, I put them in the
same triple cage. Girlfriend immediately
left her carrier and went into Cindy’s carrier to see her friend. It was heart-warming! A cat that I placed in that workshop several
years ago was still there to check out the new residents.
October Close-Out: BEST OCTOBER EVER – 118
placements in 7 counties! That makes 571
so far in 2013 which is 131 over this same time last year.

Cats after Release: Our cats are doing well in
Rockwall, McKinney and Little Elm. I
placed Fluffy this week in McKinney. She
is liking her new feral house.
Calls/EMAILS You Don’t Want to Get: Update
Burleson: (15 feral cats) Hope to get
the first 4 in on Monday next week. WI
would like to place them together in Justin.
BMG: I put 2 cats in a barn in Little Elm. I left several messages when it was time to
pick up equipment. My calls were never
returned. WELL – when she finally DID
return my call, her ROOMMATE had disassembled all our caging and LEFT IT OUT LYING IN THE MUD IN THE RAIN. It was
there for a week or two. The person I
dealt with did not:
1. Call me to pick it up
2. Move it to a shed or garage where it would not get wet
and RUSTED!
WHAT? This is total disregard for someone else’s
belongings. If she wanted it out of the
way, then take it apart and put it against a wall – there was plenty of room. I WAS (and still am) APPALLED at this
behavior. People will forever amaze me!
OMG: Someone in Lewisville noticed worms (usually tape
worms) on their cats. They called an
area feed store rather than a veterinarian.
The person there recommended a drug that is poison for cats. The folks did not know that and gave it to 3
cats – it killed one. They called me and
told them to call All Care who said BRING THEM IN! It was too late for the youngest cat – they
put her to sleep – she was convulsing.
The other 2 survived. Barn Cats
paid for the treatment. GEEZ – call a
vet office – Dronsit (for tape worms) is not expensive and the youngest cat
would still be alive.
Another Turtle in the Road: I am forever
stopping to move a turtle from the middle of a highway, road, or street. LESSON LEARNED: Always take them to the side they are headed
toward. If you take them back, then they
start across again! WELL – this turtle
turned out to be a clot of mud! HA
HA!
Thanks for following the
Barn Cats blog. See you next week! Peg
