Next week there will be no BLOG entry but we hope to place 4 cats in a barn in Avalon (Moxie, Bubbles, Gail, and Alice) on Tuesday.

Our Cats after Release:   Picked up in 4 locations – Sorry no pictures!
1.      Waxahachie:  Willow and Winnie were placed here in the pool house of the residence that was used for the filming of Walker Texas Ranger years ago.  The cats are contained in the pool house and are doing fine.  No predators can get into those closed doors.  GOOD!
2.      Waxahachie:  Scout, Abby Rose, and Steffie were placed here in the tack room of the cattle barn.  All are doing great and the black one (Scout) “talks” to the owner whenever he comes in there.  The owner is happy and the cats are doing well.
3.      Kaufman:  Rosie and Samantha were placed in this workshop in Kaufman.  The barn owner is now seeing them BUT the food is disappearing and the litter box is being used….all good signs.
4.      Terrell:  Hansel and Gretel were placed here a long time ago.  The property owner has a couple of other cats show up and wanted to use our cages to get them for spay/neuter.  NO PROBLEM – we did not need it over the winter and now her project is completed.

Flower Mound:  Barn owner has asked to keep the cats caged longer due to the extreme cold weather.  This was for Mr. Whiskers and Emily.  I am glad they are keeping the best interest of the cats in mind.  They can keep that caging for as long as they feel like the cats need it.  NO RUSH!

Bad Calls/EMAILS:  UPDATE:  Friendly Cats Dumped in the Country
Well – NO UPDATE.  She said she would call on Monday but “nothing”.  I have even sent a second email.  BUMMER for the cats!  The following is the entry from last week:
Received an email from someone saying there are 5 cats that have been dumped.  I replied and asked if they are friendly.  She responded with a YES.  Now – those friendly cats need to get off the street and into an adoption group but she has not called me to discuss options and she DID NOT INCLUDE A PHONE FOR HER IN THE EMAIL.  I can probably IMMEDIATELY get those cats into a group but have not received a call from her yet!   Hope I have a positive update next week on this situation because those cats are “in danger” in the country.

BMG:  Snowy Weather
I am sorry – this is TEXAS!   We have had 2 snow falls in the last week.  Each has been 2 to 4 inches and is causing havoc on the roads.  FINALLY things got better on Friday and I got 2 cats out to Argyle and picked up equipment in Ennis, Crandall, and 2 places in Waxahachie.  We wander around in the country and ice/snow certainly makes a mess of the schedule!

OMG:  Thank God for Convenia!
Convenia is a 2-week antibiotic shot.  It is expensive BUT it has saved many of the lives of our feral cats that get an upper respiratory infection.  Our guys hide in their small cat carriers in the big cages and it is tough to tell when they get sick.  Nancy and I got out her strong flash light and checked everyone’s eyes and noses this week.  This illness is a “kid with a cold” and it spreads from cat to cat like they were in a school room.  Formerly, we had to ground up antibiotic pills and mix them in wet food – BUT – if a cat has a cold and cannot smell, it will not eat.  Convenia is a miracle drug in my opinion.

“Thanks” for following the Barn Cats Blog.See you all next week.                             Peg
