OMG (Oh My God):  THE BASH IS OVER!

Relocations and In Take:   We had 16 placements this week.
3          Barn in Flower Mound (Silvestra, Twin, Gray Bear)
2          Barn in Aubrey (Arial, Trina)
2          Backyard in Rockwall (Handsome, Baby)
2          Barn in Fort Worth (Ivan, Sandy)
2          Barn in Leonard (Lucas, Luther)
3          Garage in Southlake (Stan, Greta, Brenda)
2          Backyard in Wylie (Jerry, Justin)

Our Cats after Release:
1.     Fort Worth:  Longfellow and Short Stuff were placed in the beautiful riding stable on the south side of Fort Worth.  They moved to the mare barn but return to eat and drink.  We placed Sandy and Ivan there this week but did not see the other two.  Sandy and Ivan did not know each other BUT he immediately got into the same carrier with her.  WOW – you never know!

2.     Fort Worth:  Buster now Thunder were placed in this garage.  Lightning is another cat that we put at this location several years ago.  Thunder is running the neighborhood checking things out but always returns to eat.  I am sure he will be more present in the garage as time progresses.
3.     Copper Canyon:  Placed Benny (Benedict) in this pool house right off the backyard.  He came right up to me to be petted and it was good to see him relaxed and doing so well.  His buddy, Godzilla (another orange tabby) was probably in the garage but I did not see him.  Sorry – I did not get a picture.  I had left the phone at home.
4.     Flower Mound:  I placed 2 cats in this backyard environment that came from Rhome.  The minute they were released from the caging they took off.  I hope they come back.  The food is eaten some days but not consistently.  BUMMER!
5.     Fort Worth:  4 calicos were placed in this backyard in Fort Worth (Princess, Penelope, Gypsy, and Olive).  They all came from Lewisville Animal Services.  Penelope has worked her way into the house and is now sleeping with the property owner.  We say Gypsy in the “cat house” that was prepared for them.  All is good in Fort Worth!

Bad Calls/Emails:  Cats Breeding “in” a Condo
A guy went to an adoption group to get his cats placed.  They turned out to be non-adoptable.  They referred him to Barn Cats.  SO – he took in two cats without getting them spayed/neutered and GUESS WHAT?  KITTENS EVERYWHERE – and he never socialized them.  Plus he has no money but he does have transportation.  I arranged everything with the vet we use and told them to start expecting cats from him.  I took him 2 weeks to get the first cat to the vet…yes…and remember they are IN HIS CONDO.  I think there are 4 – we shall see how long it takes him to get them to us.  UPDATE:  He got one to us at the end of the week.  Three to go – but they are just in his condo…???

BMG (Bitch/Moan/Groan:  Barn Cat Rescue in Corinth – WHAT?
I received an email from a lady who saw an ad on Craigslist about a cat her daughter got from Barn Cat Rescue in Corinth.  Well – there is no such group, of course.  Since there was a phone number, I called to get the scoop on what is going on.
1.     Never list an animal on Craigslist – all the weirdos are out there looking for food for their snakes.  I got her to take it down.
2.     She is looking for a home for the cat – not a barn.
3.     Daughter brought the cat from a therapeutic riding stable in Corinth and it was not stayed when she brought it home.
4.     It is not feral – but totally friendly.
5.     Somebody in Frisco told her all the adoption groups take in STRAYS – not owner-released pets – WRONG!  That makes no sense.
After a long phone conversation, the family has decided to take the cat with them on a long summer trip and have purchased a harness so she can be “walked”.  I think this is a well-meaning person that just does not understand how dangerous Craigslist is and does not know how rescue works.  Now she has my cell and can call anytime.

OMG:  The Bash is Over!
The Bash is done for another year.  It is always a lot of work but makes us some big bucks.  I would like to get the truck paid off.  We had 80 attendees – biggest group every – and returned with very few “no bid” items.  The food was FABULOUS (as usual).  We are fortunate to have  the support of Bistecca, Chef Solarno, Stacy who manages the restaurant…AND their great staff!  We are about $9,000 for the event which is good for us.  I hope to make a several thousand dollar payment on the truck we purchased last July.

Thanks for following the Barn Cats Blog.          Peg
