Relocations and In
Take: We had
3 barn placements this week on Wednesday IN THE RAIN then 4 to an adoption
group. Bonham (thankfully) did 8 spays
and 1 neuter. Our numbers and not going
to be good this September. Last year we
did 94 in September and 64 the year before that. I blame it on the weather – still too
hot!

Our Cats after Release:
Did
not pick up any equipment this week. But next week will be busy with
Farmersville, Roanoke, Celina, and Cleburne.
Bad Calls/EMAILS: Kittens, Kittens
Everywhere
I’ll
bet I am getting 10 emails and 5 calls each day to take kittens. We never take kittens: They can be carried off by a hawk in the
daytime or an owl at night. If they are
younger than 3 months (even with a feral mom) they will turn and be
domesticated if someone works with them.
Then, they can go to an adoption group and there are 300-400 of those in
the DFW area. People – Please! Read our website and don’t call Barn Cats
about kittens!
BMG: Rats – Please Start
Running!
I
have not had any calls or emails from barn owners in over a week. WE NEED SOME BARNS! The calls to take cats never stop! I have 2 cats scheduled to come in from an
adoption group and another from animal services, then every cage will be full
with 9 in cages in my family room.
Geez! NEED SOME BARNS! I know about rain dances – we need a BARN
DANCE!
OMG: Not Really

Folks
moved to a rural location about a month ago.
When the “cool front” (not cold yet) moved through the wife was freaked
by a rat. So – the husband calls Barn
Cats. Sounds like a good place with a
garage and barn for a group of 4. Called
the wife – she really does not want the responsibility of additional animals on
the property. “What diseases to they
carry? Will they hurt my dog? How much maintenance
is required?” I also explained about
snakes. If there are rodents, then
snakes will be around the house looking for food, too. She made me tired! OK – so YOU can deal with the rats then!

This
is Nancy’s cat “Mimi” who we trapped as a kitten at Mimi’s Café in Lewisville
several years ago. Think about it: What non-thinking person throws a kitten out
at a restaurant on the I-35 access road?
She has recovered well from her questionable beginnings and has a very
good life with Neighbor Nancy! Looks
good in the hat, too.
Thanks
for following the Barn Cat Blog. See you
next week! Peg
