Take: We had
3 placements this week.
2 Barn
in Denton (Koby, Ariel)
1 Workshop
in Frisco (Amelia)
Our Cats after Release: No equipment picked up this week.
December Closeout: We Placed 21 in 7 North Texas counties:
Collin Denton Hunt Wichita
Dallas Ellis Tarrant
2015 Closeout: We placed 550 in 2015. That sounds great until you see that we
placed 761 in 2014…so we are 211 less that the year before. Got to blame that on Mother Nature – rain,
heat, and then more rain! I also had
some surgery in December where we also lost 2 weeks of placements. It is always something!
Bad Calls/EMAILS: Corsicana Cats
I
am having problems getting folks to trap and get cats to me. When a guy called from Corsicana with a story
about a neighbor who moved and did not take her cats, I told him to pack them
up and bring them to Lewisville – thinking this will be like everyone
else! NOT! New Year’s day he showed up with 9 cats with
only one that is fixed. AND most are
friendly! I will get them vet’ted this
week and traded to adoption groups. One
of his other neighbors does not feed his dogs and they were coming to his house
to EAT THE CATS! We will find them a
safer place, for sure! More next week….
BMG: 6-Year-Old Declawed
Cat
This
young woman got a cat from her sister in 2009.
He is about 6 now and is declawed.
She moved to a new house and he was nervous. SO what did she do? She took him to Animal Services! WHAT?
There are 400 adoption groups in the DFW area and she takes a declawed
cat to animal services. IDIOT! I am sorry this nice cat ended up with such
an uncaring person. The more time I
spend in rescue the more I hate people.
OMG: "Jimmy" - Katrina Cat
I
featured “Jimmy” in our end-of-the-year letter.
Jimmy was from New Orleans and came to us following Katrina. He passed away in June without making it to
the 10-year anniversary of the hurricane.
He survived for 3 months in that slug before being trapped by one of the
Alley Cat Allies volunteers. Barn Cats
took 54 cats from New Orleans in the 6 months following the disaster. Jimmy stayed at my house and was very happy
with his own “colony” inside. He was
feral as they come but got along fine in the house. I miss Jimmy!
Thanks
for following the Barn Cats Blog. Peg
