Calls/Emails: Injured Cat in Mineola – UPDATE – AGAIN!
BMG (Bitch/Moan/Groan): Turtles and Armadillos
OMG (Oh My God): Lewisville Animal
Services – UPDATE
Relocations: I placed 9 this
week.
2 Shed
in Anna (Blackie, Renee) 5 Workshop in Emory (5 from Feral Friends)
2 Airplane Hanger in Justin (2 from Mid-Cities Community Cats)
We put the 2 in Justin on Tuesday at 4 pm. We got out of there just before the weather
turned nasty. We were just ahead of a
tornado that hit just east of Justin. We
were stuck in traffic at that time but not in the path of the bad storm. BARN CATS ROCK!
April Closeout: I placed 51 in 10 North Texas counties:
Collin Denton Kaufman Rockwall
Cooke Ellis Rains
Dallas Grayson Red River
Our Cats after Release:
1. Crossroads: Gum Drop, Jelly Bean, Pixie, Kit Kat, and
Snickers went to this barn on elaborate property in Crossroads. All have been spotted so feel like they are
doing well.
2. Whitewright: Uno and Dos went to this garage with a cat
door. One has been spotted but lots of
food is disappearing. Hope they are both
still around.
3. Anna: Loner, Noel, and Smarty Pants went to this
workshop. Loaner is illusive but has
been spotted. Noel and Smarty Pants are
seen and PETTED regularly.
4. Rockwall: Lucy and Grayson were placed in this barn
home in Rockwall. They are “living high”
in this nice barn and doing well.
5. Italy: Joe, Charles, and Alex went to this workshop
with a nice, young family. They have been
spotted but I feel like they may have been caught in high water because their
rugs and bedding was wet when I picked it up.
BUT – they have survived and are doing well. Best of all the rodents are gone.
6. Mansfield: Bear-Bear and Ellen went to this barn that is
right behind the owner’s home. Bear-Bear
will now let her pet him – ALL GOOD – and Ellen is around bout more
illusive.
Calls/Emails: Injured
Cat in Mineola – UPDATE - AGAIN
I
help someone with cats many, many years ago.
She is now living in Mineola, TX.
That is “not” close by. HOWEVER,
it is close to Emory, TX where I have had a request for 6 cats. I will be taking 6 from Feral Friends to
Emory hopefully next week. Then, I will
get this injured cat from the vet clinic and give it to an adoption group
here. A neighbor’s dog chased it into the
street and he was hit by a car. The good
news is that the driver took the cat to a vet clinic where it is healing. Hope this works out…!!! UPDATE: Picking up that cat on Monday after I
deliver cats to Emory. He has tested
negative and been given rabies and distemper shots. I just need to get him neutered after he is
back here. It would have been about
$250 to get him neutered at that local vet clinic. You know:
People always think things are cheaper living in a small town – NOT!
UPDATE: Bubba now has been diagnosed with hook worms and giardia. Giving him meds but cannot go for adoption
with these issues. BUMMER!
BMG: Turtles and Armadillos
Turtles: Have saved two in the middle of busy roads
this week. You always put them on the
edge of the road in the direction they were walking. Hope they do well.
Armadillos: MANY MANY in the roads dead this week. Thinking they are in “heat” and running
wildly. Disturbing.
OMG: Lewisville Animal Services – UPDATE
When
I needed cats for the Red Oak location (then she cancelled), but I contacted
several groups and shelters to see about getting 2 cats for that location. I called LVAS because I had not heard from
them in a while. Their director took a
different job and the assistant is now “in change”. She has been a problem in the past –
cancelled the spay/neuter of ferals when the director was on vacation. I was about to challenge that with the City
Council when the director returned and reversed her decision. I don’t know what she has AGAINT feral cats –
but this is serious. I ran the numbers
and I have taken 46 from them since the first of the year but only 1 in the
last month – BECAUSE they have not called me because they are no longer
spaying/neutering. More next week… UPDATE: Met with 3 city officials this
week. It seems that the former director
had not “changed policy” just did what she wanted in the spay/neuter of the
ferals. They will put forth a change of
policy but it will take several months.
So – how many ferals will die before this is resolved? BUMMER!
Thanks
for following the Barn Cats Blog. Peg
