Relocations and In Take
Our Cats after Release
Tribute to Puddy
Phone Calls/Emails You Don’t Want to Get

Relocations and In Take:   Only 3 placed this week. Was unable to get a placement scheduled for 6 and hope it gets done this week. When a scheduling conflict occurs, I have probably already agreed to take in cats to replace the ones going out….then, if those do not go out…a bottleneck occurs and I have CATS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!
            3          Bonham Rescue

Our Cats after Release:
·         Argyle:  I picked up equipment there this week. This was to help someone with 2 outside cats who was moving out of state. A friend offered to keep them and then set up the first using some caging she had. WELL – you can probably guess that that cat got out one of the first nights after placement. So, when it was time for the second cat, I took caging. Here is the good news: The first cat has returned to be with her sister.  YEAH!

Tribute to Puddy:  Puddy was a small, buff cat that originally came from the Garland Hoarders on October 1st of 2009. What a kind, sweet soul! Puddy was “older than dirt” when we got her from that filthy house where they kept the cats in rabbit cages. Of the 22 we rescued, 7 were feral and the rest were friendly. 6 of the ferals went to a barn in McKinney. One is still here…Rambo….big orange and white with “bedroom” eyes. A tortishell, Tinker, is the current “Queen of the Cat Room”. Puddy decided right on that she wanted to be in the guest room and sleep with me. Puddy, Tinker, and Mr. Crinkles were friendly but so old that no adoption group would take them. Mr. Crinkles passed away last June. Puddy was losing weight for no apparent reason. Her blood work was reasonably good for an elderly cat. I decided to just take one day at a time. Wednesday night she began vocalizing – making weird noises…crying out – and Thursday was having trouble getting on and off the bed. You know – they will tell you when it is “time”.  Puddy passed at about 1:30 Thursday afternoon. RIP Miss Puddy!

Phone Calls/Emails You Don’t Want to Get:
·         Did not have any really weird calls/emails this week except for (it seems like) millions of cats that need to be placed. I agreed to take 3 from Mount Pleasant, TX but they have found another avenue for those 3 cats. I’m OK with that, for sure. I am waiting for 8 from Tyler and 4 from Babes Restaurant in Frisco.

Thanks for following the Barn Cat Blog.  See you next week.           Peg

4          Barn in Lucas (Oreo, Mink, Pumpkin, Smoke)
2          Barn in Royce City (Mary and Espresso)
1          Barn in Cedar Hill (Callie)
2          Barn in Burleson/Cleburne (Minnie and Binx)
2          Barn in Benbrook (Cassidy and Patty)
2          Barn in Weatherford (Jacob and Little One)

Our Cats after Release:
·         Rockwall:  Had placed Denise there to be “friends” with Turtle – the current barn cat. Well, Turtle really likes Denise and even wanted in the cage with her. They are now cuddling with each other – YEAH TEAM!

Phone Calls/Emails You Don’t Want to Get:
·         An elderly woman is losing her house in the Tyler area. An adoption group is taking the friendly cats that are inside….but….there are 8 outside that are feral and NOT sterilized!   GEEZ! Feral Friends has offered to do the vet work if I will take 4 ferals from them for placement – good deal – no problem! I will be picking up the Tyler cats later this month.
·         There are currently 4 feral cats living at the Babes restaurant in Frisco. Well – the local corporate office wants them GONE – so – they will be coming here after the vet work is completed.

Thanks for following the Barn Cat Blog.  See you next week.           Peg

2012 Closeout:   2012 was a good year for barn cats.
            521 cats placed for a 10-year total of 4,735
25,817 miles travel in the 37 north Texas counties that we service
2 successful fundraisers (June and November)
            1 new volunteer – Heather
Purchased a new, BIG sink for the cleaning of equipment
Purchased a new, deep washing machine to get the towels and rugs cleaned
            Got the new truck wrapped

Relocations and In Take:   I placed 7 with in-take at 6.
            4          Adoption Groups
            3          Warehouse in Seagoville

I took in a big white cat (Moose) from the Tri-City shelter in Cedar Hill. I do not like to ever place a white cat in a barn environment because they can be seen at night….but…he will be perfect for that warehouse. They took 1 cat for the office and 2 cats for the warehouse.  It is heated so there was no problem placing them with all this cold weather we have been having.

Our Cats after Release:
·         Van Alstyne:  The two tuxedo cats I put in the garage in Van Alstyne are doing well. I saw both when I went to pick up equipment.

Phone Calls/Emails You Don’t Want to Get:
·         Weatherford Update:   Received the paperwork from Feral Friends to use lower pricing at a vet in their program in Weatherford. I sent the paperwork on for him to sign and we can get this started BEFORE those females start having kittens!
