Calls/EMAILS You Don’t Want to Get
BMG (Bitch – Moan - Groan)
OMG (Oh My God)

Relocations and In Take:   Placed 9 this week with intake of 2.
            2          Patio in Aledo (heater)
2          Greenhouse in Flower Mound (heater)
2          Organic Nursery in Mesquite (heater)
            2          Garage in Corinth (heater)
1          Garage in Flower Mound (heater)

With this ARCTIC BLAST, we have got to be really careful of putting cats in a cold cage where they cannot get out to a warmer area…so…heaters are called for!

Cats after Release:  Have many locations to pick up equipment – will update as they are completed.
Cherry
Samantha

      1.      Argyle – Put out Cherry and Samantha from Lewisville Animal Services at this backyard location.  They are doing great.

2.      Flower Mound – Put out Jenny and Janet here in October.  They had a raccoon problem so I did not pick up equipment until last week.  They are doing well but I did not see them.
3.      Richardson – Ricky went to this garage.  He is doing well and KILLING STUFF!
Miss Torti

4.      McKinney  -- Miss Torti has moved into the house…HA HA!...and even goes on walks with the family.

5.      Grandview – I put out 9 cats at this location:  Princess, Smudge, Toothless, ZuZu, Salem, Sassy, Kendra, Kirby, and Kevin.  ALL 9 are still around!!!!!!!!   I got to see Toothless, Zuzu, Salem, Sassy, and Princess.  The other 4 are hanging out at a different barn.

6.      Corsicana – Gina, George, and Tank went here.  All are doing well.  Gina is recovering from an upper respiratory infection (kitty cold).  She is getting canned food laced with antibiotics twice a day….HA HA!   I saw here when I picked up equipment but she was “off in a flash” and I did not get a picture.
7.      Justin – Blackie, Creamy, Two-Faced, and Uncle went to this barn.  I saw one of them chasing birds and having a great time.

Calls/EMAILS You Don’t Want to Get:  A local cat rescuer had many more cats in her home over  the limit in that city.   SO – all were confiscated.  Now everyone is scrambling to get these cats out of “jail”.  Well – hope the rescue organization that she is part of will keep better tabs on the situation now.  This should never happen.  You cannot let your emotions get you into trouble.  You cannot save them all – SORRY!

BMG:   Due to the worst ice storm in 3 years, I have been STUCK at home for the last 3 ½ days.  I am tired of frozen food and am now out of milk and ALMOST out of Diet Coke – the worst possible situation.  My driveway and alleyway is a solid river of ice.  I have cats to place (Collinsville, Fort Worth, Boyd, St. Jo, Princeton, Whitesboro, Graford) and equipment to pick up (Paradise, Sherman, Windom, Frisco, Sanger, Rowlett, Nevada…just to mention a few).

Raccoon Proof Cat Feeder

OMG:  Check out this photo.  Raccoons are constant problem with a cat feeder.  This family in Corinth has figured out how to protect the food.

OMG (Oh My God)

Relocations and In Take:   Placed 9 this week with intake at 0.   (Thanksgiving week)
5          Barn (petting zoo) in Keller
            4          Bonham Rescue

November Close-out:  It was another outstanding month for Barn Cats..the rats are still running!  We placed 94 which makes for 665 YTD.

We were in 10 counties:
            Collin               Dallas              Ellis                  Grayson           Navarro
Cooke              Denton            Fannin             Johnson           Wise

Cats after Release:
1.      Weatherford:  Had an update about Carlos who was placed in a barn north of Weatherford.  “When I got home this evening, in the wind and rain, Carlos was under my truck telling me how awful things had become.  He came to the barn with me and after I fed him, we had our usual “moment” with him curled up in my lap.  When I had to get up, I lifted him up on the hay bales and reminded him about the pet carrier sitting there with a fleece pad in it.  I had seen him up there sniffing around it and looking inside, but until tonight he had not ever gone inside.  This time he walked right in and curled up on the fleece and STAYED there as it he understood that this could be a good thing.  He even stayed curled up when I put a larger fleece pad OVER the crate to keep out the wind.  I felt so much better about leaving him once I knew he understood that he had a comfy place to stay during bad weather.”

Mesquite:  Kathy is doing well at the organic nursery…AND…
they have asked for 2 additional cats….so….
Vernon and Blue Bear will go there this week.  The
other 3 are “on the property” just not so visible as Kathy.

Ennis:  Bella, Rue, Zinger and Celia went to this barn/workshop.  We did not see any cats but the owners have seen all of them – GOOD NEWS!

Waxahachie:  Put Bo, Downey, and Whisper here.  I saw one of the cats – I think it is Bo – sort-haired Siamese mix.  The barn owner built them a “house”.

Tribute to Twinkie and Mystic:   With much regret, it was time to put both Twinkie and Mystic to sleep on Tuesday, 11/19/13.  Twinkie had cancer and Mystic was just losing weight and having trouble getting around the house.

Twinkie – age UNKNOWN – originally came from a hoarder in Sherman (one of the first hoarders we ever dealt with at Barn Cats.  This guy got cats from Sherman animal services and put them in a dark shed in his backyard.  Then – he passed away and his wife was not keeping up with the care of the cats.  Their daughter-in-law said “ENOUGH” and started trapping the cats, getting the shots updated (already spayed/neutered) and brought them to Barn Cats at 2 or 3 a week for many weeks.  The first weekend Twinkie was in a cage in my dining room when Donna went in to clean it – POP – Twinkie was out over her shoulder and had been loose in my house ever sense.  That was in June of 2005.  She was such a tiny soul – I hope she gets a better-working body in her next reincarnation!

Mystic came to Animal Rescue League from Carrollton Animal Services with a litter of tiny black kittens.  All soon got RINGWORM and had to be treated.  All the kittens got adopted but mama Mystic ONLY LIKED ME!  She was awful at adopt-a-pets and finally I just adopted her myself.  She regularly bit me but I just got used to it.  She was 18 years old.  RIP Mystic – you will be missed but I will save a bunch in antibiotic cream!

Calls/EMAILS You Don’t Want to Get:  One of our feral cats had developed a “kitty cold” while in our relo caging in Corsicana.  Well, that is quite a drive away and the weather is nasty.  I had some pills so I over-night mailed them to Corsicana….YES!   It worked and the kitty is better.  That was cheaper than taking her to a vet there and paying an office visit.  Glad I thought of that option!

BMG:   I hate the cold weather.  It makes cleaning of equipment harder and is certainly harder on the cats while they are in cages getting acclimated.  We have some heating pads that look like door mats and also big sheets/blankets to cover the cages.  BUT – I still worry!

OMG:  We are getting – should say – everybody is getting hoarder after hoarder lately.  I have 3 groups of cats in house from 3 different hoarding situations in 3 different cities/counties.  GEEZ!
