2          Bonham Rescue

Our Cats after Release:   Picked up in 1 location this week.
Poolville – Fran, Frankie, and Faith were placed in this garage/workshop in Parker County.  We picked up equipment on Thursday in between rain storms and floods.  They are doing great.

May Closeout
We placed 46 which is WAY DOWN from May, 2014 which was 56.  Totals are down from last year as well – 331 to 266.  65 placements down from last year at this time.  Going to blame this on the terrible weather with all the rain, washed out roads/bridges, and mud!  BUMMER!
Hope June is better!  Placements were in 7 North Texas counties.

Bad Calls/EMAILS:  Kittens Everywhere
People just start calling anybody that they think might take their kittens.  They don’t think about where we put our adult cats…IN THE COUNTRY.  The hawks carry kittens off in the daytime and the owls at night.  People:  It is much easier to have the cat spayed that to multiple your problem with a batch of kittens.  Sorry – we cannot help you with this one.

BMG:  Bad Eye
We have had a cat Frankie for about 2 months.  He immediately got an upper respiratory infection that took 2 Convenia shots to revolve.  Saturday he developed an eye infection and the eye had to be removed.  I check everybody each day and he was OK on Friday but this was HORRIBLE on Saturday morning.  Dr. Jim at All Care removed the eye and I will get him home on Monday.  He had been caged so this has to be an internal medical problem…???

OMG:  Houdini Update
Houdini is a large orange tabby we placed in Lucas.  He came home with a damaged back leg that had to be removed.  How he is back in the barn and climbing on top of the horse stalls.  YOU GO, HOUDINI!

Auction Preview – Great Dog Art
I know this is a cat charity but we attract some dog people and also those do both.  SO …  These are well done, I think.

Relocations and In Take:   Placed 6 this week with intake at 3.
1                 Adoption Group (Mama from LVAS)
2                 Backyard in Southlake (Orange Eye, Waddles)
2          Barn in Aubrey (Danny, Dandy)
1          Bonham Rescue

The above location in Southlake built a really cool cat shelter.  It is surrounded by a dog kennel for additional protection and is right behind the house.

Our Cats after Release:   Picked up in 2 locations this week.  We are still delayed by bad weather.
1.     Copper Canyon – Greta, Grayson, Gavin, Ginger, and Glenda were put in the barn near Lake Lewisville.  I saw two of them but they ran off before I could get a picture.  Each morning they are in their kitty condo, all comfy!
2.     Copper Canyon – Moxie, Misty, and Beau went to this barn behind the house in Copper Canyon.  I did not see them but the owner says they are all three still there.   GOOD!
3.     Ennis – Teddy went to this home in Ennis.  He is doing well – hiding under the house!  Good for him!

Funny Stuff
Saw this in Key West…Wish I had one!

Bad Calls/EMAILS:  Wants 54 Cats Removed before May 31st
Sure – no problem!   Received an email TODAY – SUNDAY May 24 and the person wants to relo 54 cats before she leaves on May 31st.   ARE YOU KIDDING!  I took 54 from New Orleans following Katrina over 6 months NOT ONE WEEK!    WOW and when I called her it went directly into voice mail.  PLUS – she did not call – she sent an email!  When there is a large number of cats, I take 2 or 3 a week until the problem is resolved.  I probably will not be able to help any of these cats because it is just too late.   I hate people!

BMG:  Rescue???
Love it when someone calls from a business and expects you to “rush right over” and trap these cats.  She wanted me to call her Operations Department but most do not speak English.   Hummmmm!  Just like Animal Services and other groups, we loan traps but we do not trap or have volunteers that trap.  You are a business with employees.  We are a non-profit with all volunteers.  Sorry for these cats – they will probably end up dumped somewhere by a “pest removal company”.  People think we are a big place with lots of employees….6 volunteers and two rooms at the back of my house.  They don’t understand rescue and were really not interested in me telling them how it really works.

OMG:  Turtles in the Road
When it rains, the turtles are out trying to cross roads and being hit by cars.  I always stop if at all possible and move it to the side it is headed toward.  Never move it BACK – it will just try and cross the road again.  I saw that once!  ALSO – hold the turtle way out in front of you.  They usually pee when picked up.  YES – I know this but still had my left pant leg saturated by turtle pee on Saturday.   Oh well – just toss the pants into the washing machine!

Auction Preview – Live Auction
I have got to figure out which items will be on the Live Auction.  I like to hold it to 7 when is sometimes a problem.  I think I will do all one-of-a-kind items this year and things that cannot be replaced.  I purchased 3 bottles of wine when we went to Wichita Falls last fall.  Well – I called the winery this week and all three are now…
1.     Award-winning wines
2.     No longer being produced
3.     Have tripled in price even if you could find them.
Also, this large wall hanging shaped like Texas and made of expired license plates.  Definitely one-of-a-kind!
