1.      Flower Mound:  Mr. Whiskers and Emily were placed in this barn.  They are around (food disappearing) but being illusive.
2.      Argyle:  Alvin and his girl friend, Rachael, went to this barn in Argyle.  Rachel was still in the hidey box, so we left it there.  Here is Alvin in the tack room.

Bad Calls/EMAILS:  Crying, Crying, Crying!
I received a call from a lady in Johnson County.  I could not understand her for all the crying.  I tried to advise her on what to do, but could not get much info out of her and/or unsure if she understood what I was saying.  POOR CATS!  Get a grip, people!  You have those cats LIVES in your hands.

BMG:  Ground Finally Drying Out
First it was sleet and snow…then rain…then mountains of mud!  As you can see from the numbers above we are finally getting cats out to the many barns that were waiting.  I have had 4 requests from the Celina/Prosper area…bad rats this year.  One lady could not get her garage door down last week because there was a RAT SNAKE in the door track!  YIPES!  They are harmless (just looking for rodents to eat) but a snake is a snake – no thanks!
OMG:  Petey
Petey is a female that we received from an adoption group many years ago.  She is micro-chipped.  We placed her in a barn in Desoto but she left and went to a neighborhood close by.  The Tri-City Shelter got her next, traced the chip back to us, and I picked her up.  Last fall, we placed her in a barn in Bartonville.  Six months later, I received a call from a local vet clinic that she was now there in Flower Mound.  She left the barn and went to a garage in Lantana.  So now we found her a garage for her in Argyle – hope she likes this one!

Bad Calls/Emails:  UPDATE:  Friendly Cats Dumped
BMG (Bitch/Moan/Groan):  Snowy Weather
OMG (Oh My God):  Thank God for Convenia

THERE WILL BE NO ENTRY FOR 03/09/15-03/15/15

Relocations and In Take:   Placed 15 this week with intake at 4.
3          Barn in Wills Point (Felix, Abner, Rena)
3          Barn in Terrell (Jesse, Cindy, Sam)
3          Barn in Italy (Ben, Abby, Annie)
2          Barn in Argyle (Alvin, Rachael)
1          Adoption Group (Garfield)
3          Bonham Rescue

Next week there will be no BLOG entry but we hope to place 4 cats in a barn in Avalon (Moxie, Bubbles, Gail, and Alice) on Tuesday.

Our Cats after Release:   Picked up in 4 locations – Sorry no pictures!
1.      Waxahachie:  Willow and Winnie were placed here in the pool house of the residence that was used for the filming of Walker Texas Ranger years ago.  The cats are contained in the pool house and are doing fine.  No predators can get into those closed doors.  GOOD!
2.      Waxahachie:  Scout, Abby Rose, and Steffie were placed here in the tack room of the cattle barn.  All are doing great and the black one (Scout) “talks” to the owner whenever he comes in there.  The owner is happy and the cats are doing well.
3.      Kaufman:  Rosie and Samantha were placed in this workshop in Kaufman.  The barn owner is now seeing them BUT the food is disappearing and the litter box is being used….all good signs.
4.      Terrell:  Hansel and Gretel were placed here a long time ago.  The property owner has a couple of other cats show up and wanted to use our cages to get them for spay/neuter.  NO PROBLEM – we did not need it over the winter and now her project is completed.

Flower Mound:  Barn owner has asked to keep the cats caged longer due to the extreme cold weather.  This was for Mr. Whiskers and Emily.  I am glad they are keeping the best interest of the cats in mind.  They can keep that caging for as long as they feel like the cats need it.  NO RUSH!

Bad Calls/EMAILS:  UPDATE:  Friendly Cats Dumped in the Country
Well – NO UPDATE.  She said she would call on Monday but “nothing”.  I have even sent a second email.  BUMMER for the cats!  The following is the entry from last week:
Received an email from someone saying there are 5 cats that have been dumped.  I replied and asked if they are friendly.  She responded with a YES.  Now – those friendly cats need to get off the street and into an adoption group but she has not called me to discuss options and she DID NOT INCLUDE A PHONE FOR HER IN THE EMAIL.  I can probably IMMEDIATELY get those cats into a group but have not received a call from her yet!   Hope I have a positive update next week on this situation because those cats are “in danger” in the country.

BMG:  Snowy Weather
I am sorry – this is TEXAS!   We have had 2 snow falls in the last week.  Each has been 2 to 4 inches and is causing havoc on the roads.  FINALLY things got better on Friday and I got 2 cats out to Argyle and picked up equipment in Ennis, Crandall, and 2 places in Waxahachie.  We wander around in the country and ice/snow certainly makes a mess of the schedule!

OMG:  Thank God for Convenia!
Convenia is a 2-week antibiotic shot.  It is expensive BUT it has saved many of the lives of our feral cats that get an upper respiratory infection.  Our guys hide in their small cat carriers in the big cages and it is tough to tell when they get sick.  Nancy and I got out her strong flash light and checked everyone’s eyes and noses this week.  This illness is a “kid with a cold” and it spreads from cat to cat like they were in a school room.  Formerly, we had to ground up antibiotic pills and mix them in wet food – BUT – if a cat has a cold and cannot smell, it will not eat.  Convenia is a miracle drug in my opinion.

BMG:  Moving/Mom Died/Too Many Cats
OK – cats breed.  The only way to stop it is to get them spayed/neutered.  Now they are moving this week, there are cats everywhere and she wants me to come get them.  ALSO – it is sleeting and snowing.  Suggest she move the cats with her because there is a TNR policy in Fort Worth where she is moving.  But I had to listen to her cry over the phone…mom died…sorry…overwhelmed with cats…sorry…cannot take them at Barn Cats because the weather is too bad for placement and they are not sterilized…sorry!  Sure – wait until there is a crisis.  NOPE – no sympathy here!

OMG:  Barn Cat Theme Song
Check out this website in California.  There is a video and Barn Cat song there.  Really good!

Gems from the Internet
Not only did I find the Barn Cat Song but many funny pictures from various internet sites.  There is someone really creative in Nevada!  Wish I had thought of some of these ideas.
