Relocations and In Take:   Placed 13 this week with intake at 5.
1                    Barn in McKinney (Donna)
2          Garage/Workshop in Denison (Thing 1 and 2)
2          Barn in Justin (Jamie and Jenny)
2          Garage in Fort Worth (Pepper Anne, Patton)
2          Garage in Commerce (Addison, Edgar)
4          Bonham Rescue

The Fort Worth location was at an historic house on the Ridglea Country Club golf course.  WOW – lucky cats!

Our Cats after Release:      Picked up equipment in 4 locations this week but did not get any pictures – sorry!
1.      Weston:  Thomas is doing well here and has even made friends with the dog.  Barn was closed when I went by so did not get to see him.
2.      Weston:  4 cats from Judy went to this location.  All are doing great.
3.      Van Alstyne:  Amy, Andrea, and Mocha went to this workshop area.  Saw the tabby/white (Andrea) when I was picking up equipment.  All are hanging out in the workshop and doing well.
4.      McKinney:  Put Grace and Blossom in this barn.  Grace has worked out well but Blossom is just too shy for this location.  I switched her out with Donna, a calico.  Blossom will be relocated to Flower Mound to a quieter barn next week.

April Closeout:  We placed 75 in April in 9 North Texas counties:
            Collin               Cooke              Dallas              Denton
            Ellis                  Fannie             Grayson           Montague       Tarrant

It was a great month but not our best.  That was in 2008 when 77 were placed…just 2 short…Geez!

Bad Calls/EMAILS:  Leaving your Senior Cats Behind
Tuesday was not a good day for the phone.  A guy left a message trying to place his 2 cats because he was moving.  OK – maybe he is moving to Germany or something…benefit of the doubt.  WELL – the cats are 14 and 16 years old and he is moving from McKinney to Fort Worth.  He rented an apartment in Fort Worth that DOES NOT TAKE PETS!   WHAT?  You have two elderly cats and you rent an apartment that does not take them.  Would you leave your kids behind!  AND – just to make matters worse – this is Tuesday and he is moving at the end of the week.  I “read him the riot act” and he hung up on me.

On the other side – another call was from a grandmother trying to help out her daughter who had a child that is allergic and other child on the way.  That cat was also up in years but she was trying to find options for this cat.  I said you really need a “Seniors for Seniors” program but we do not have anyone doing that in our area that I know of.  So we talked about senior “independent” living locations and she will try to find someone to take that cat at one of those places.  Hope it works out – at least she is trying!

BMG:  Flies EVERYWHERE
We reserve the right to turn down any relocation if we feel the property is not suitable for our cats.  I traveled into the Dallas area with 3 cats on Thursday.  The horses looked OK but the flies were HORRIFIC!  I will not put cats in a cage where they can be attacked by flies with no way to get away from them.  There are fly predators, misting systems, and compounds to feed to your horses to make their poop unattractive to flies.  This location had NONE of these…so returned to Lewisville with our cats.

OMG:  Tootles
Remember the little tabby that went from her barn to the Circle R Event Center in Flower Mound – this was in March!  She got an infected eye and it ruptured on Wednesday night.  I put her to sleep on Thursday.  What a sweet little girl who had been through so much!   RIP, Tootles!  I will miss you.

Barn Cat Bash Auction:  Cat and Dog “Play” Baskets
Neighbor Nancy is the queen of basket making around here.  They are just running over with goodies when she is finished.  We were off trying to find BIGGER ready-made cellophane covers for them this week.  Take a look…

Talked about our yard art last week but the pictures never were transfer from my phone to the computer.  Now – here they are:

Thanks for following the Barn Cats blog.  See you next week!           Peg
