Blog 07/25/16 to 07/31/16

NEED YOUR SUPPORT ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN LEWISVILLE, TX – Code Enforcement in Lewisville announced last Friday (just before city offices closed at noon) that Animal Services would no longer be allowed to test or spay/neuter any cats considered feral.  We have taken 30 cats from them this year after they had been tested negative for feline leukemia, spayed/neutered, and given rabies and distemper shots.  Those 30 cats received a second chance for a life but many, many others were KILLED just because they were labeled feral.  I have plans to talk to both Code Enforcement and the City Manager tomorrow 8/1/16.  If this decision is not rescinded, I will need as many people as possible to show support for Barn Cats at the City Council Meeting that will be held that evening at the City Hall, 151 W. Church Street, Lewisville, TX 75057 at 7 pm.  Please come to show your support – sign a card that you support Barn Cats – be ready to stand when I ask for that show.  If the decision is rescinded, a post will be done to the BLOG and to Facebook.  THANKS!  Our Forgotten Cats Need You!

Our Cats after Release:
1.     Granbury:  Smokey, Blue, Jet, Lucy, Harley, and Carrot went to this barn in Granbury.  They are still seeing 4 out of 5 which is expected.  2 are going also to a neighbor’s barn as well.  GOOD JOB!
2.     Plano:  Sophie and Sally were placed in the garage workshop.  Both are doing well.  The property backs up to a creek so rodents will be a continuing problem.  Hopefully that problem has been resolved by our cats.

June Closeout:  We placed 33 in 5 North Texas Counties.

 Bad Calls/Emails:  Birdie Mae
We received Birdie Mae from an elderly lady in the Bonham area along with 3 others.  “Junior” has gone home with one of our volunteers, “Shirley” is still here, and a younger one went to an adoption group.  Birdie Mae is “older that dirt” 18 years at least but seems in good health.  She is skinny but purrs a lot when she is in my lap.  BUT – last weekend she started peeing everywhere…on rugs, chairs, food bowls, etc.  I took her to the vet and they did blood work.  A cat’s red blood cell count should be 137 – Birdie Mae’s was 12!  Vet could not believe she seems so good but could not prove it by the blood work.  We think the decline has been gradual and her body has just adjusted.  Kidney and liver levels are low as well.  Poos Birdie Mae!  Her end may be soon.  She is so cute and loveable!

BMG:   4 then 3 More!
In May, I received a “warning” call from the SPCA.  They had given my number to a guy with cats BREEDING in his condo.  Well – it was May 29th when I received the first text.  He won’t call but will sent gigantic text messages…passive regressive!  The SPCA took his kittens but not the adults – 4 young adults about 1 yr – none spayed/neutered.  I told him to bring them to our vet in Coppell any week Tuesday – Thursday.  It took him 8 weeks to get the last one in last Tuesday.  Then he tells me there are 3 more outside….I should have known!   He got 2 in on Thursday but no sign of the last one AND he is being evicted on Tuesday 8/1/16.  Geez!

OMG:  Shot Up Mailbox and Rainbow
We went to Collinsville on Tuesday.  When I call to just check in, the property owner said someone had shot the numbers off her mailbox…WHAT!  Here is the evidence along with a pretty rainbow from Monday on I35 near Sanger.
