Our Cats after Release:   Picked up in 4 locations – Sorry no pictures!
1.      Ennis:  Manny was relo’ed to this garage in Ennis.  The rodents are gone but they have not seen him.  I think he is still there because the mice were bad in their flower beds.
2.      Dallas:  Celeste (now Grace) is living “high off the hog” in the backyard pool-house in Dallas.  Pool life is agreeing with her.
3.      Terrell:  Jessie, Sam, and Cindy were put in a triple cage at this barn site.  They have been seen occasionally, the food has been disappearing, and the RATS ARE GONE!
4.      Italy:  Ben, Abby, and Annie went to this workshop behind a home in Italy.  We did not see them but were told they have been spotted running the property.

March Closeout

Bad Calls/EMAILS:  20 Cats and Moving Away
You know – if you stop this at 2 cats, you do not get 20!

BMG:  Problems with Animal Services
We told in a big black neutered tom cat from an animal services location.  They “said” he had been tested (plus neuter, rabies, and distemper shot).  He was loose in another rescuer’s sunroom for several weeks mixing with other cats.  Then he came here.  When I was out of town, he got an upper repertory infection and we gave him 2 Convenia shots over a 2-week period.  When he recovered, I let him loose in my cat room where there are 6 elderly cats.  When I got a chance, I traded him to an adoption group – being a very sweet cat!  Well – as you probably have guessed by now, the adoption group re-tested him again and he came up triple positive for leukemia, FIV, and heartworm.  HOW – he has potentially infected all the cats at the shelter, all the cats at the other rescuer’s house, and my house.  Now all the cats in my cat room have had leukemia shots but the shots are not 100% effective.  Tracing back, the shelter has admitted that this cat “slipped through the cracks”.  WHAT?  There is an answer for this:  Just test every cat that comes into the shelter.  Then you are not:
1.      Taking the chance of infecting other cats
2.      Spending time/money sterilizing and giving shots to a cat that a group or individual is going to euthanize because they are positive
3.      Potentially infecting other cats that are adopted out of the shelter and go into multi-cat households
4.      Returning TNR’ed cats to their colony where they can infect other cats that may just show up
They say it is a financial issue – BUT you will not be sterilizing cats that are positive and giving them shots.  Until their policy is changed, I will not be taking any additional cats from that shelter.  Sorry but this is a serious problem.

OMG:  Reward:  $5,000 Texas Kitten Mutilations
I visited Bedford Animal Services to pick up a cat on Friday….a wonderful orange tabby.  There was a flyer on the counter:  Reward Offered in Texas Kitten Mutilations …
“The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the mutilations of two kittens in the north Bedford, Texas area.  Two eight-month-old semi-feral kittens, one black and one tabby, were found by local animal advocates with very large wounds near their private areas and legs.  After the cats were examined by a veterinarian, it was determined that the wounds were a result of intentional animal abuse.  The black kitten’s injury was so severe that he had to be euthanized.  The tabby is still undergoing treatment.”  I was shocked – this was new news to me.  “Bedford Police Department is investigating.  Anyone with information about the case is asked to call:  837-952-2127.”  I hope they catch this pervert.  Abuse of animals can lead to abuse of people later in life…so…I want to be on that jury!

While relocating some cats to Frost, Texas, we spotted this wine rack made of horseshoes.  I commented that it is illegal in Texas to have an empty wine rack.  He laughed then asked if I wanted it – YES – of course!  It will be a great addition to the wine section of the auction.
