Catch up - 11/22/2010 - 11/28/2010

Hope everyone had a Happy Turkey Day – I know I did!

Barn Cats is always busy during the Thanksgiving week.  Our Annual Meeting and Auction for the volunteers is always on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  The Board comes at 1:30 and the meeting starts at 3.  We had 26 attendees and a very successful auction raising $3,432.00 for our rescue efforts.  Everyone was very generous.  The meeting/auction ended at 5:30 and most of the group went to Grotto in Highland Village for dinner.  Chef Salerno even came out to greet the “crazy cat people”.

It was a good week for placements, as well, with 4 to Wilmer, 3 to Anna, and 4 to Blue Ridge.  BUT – now it is getting cold and we have to be careful that our cats are warm enough to stay in a cage for 1 to 2 weeks.  We are now using our double hidey boxes, rugs in the cages, and blankets to cover the cages.  We are also not putting any cats out in a single cage.  With two, there is more body warmth produced.  I think all the places we put our cats over the weekend will be sure to cover the cages.  We are having warm, sunny days but the temperature is quickly dropping as the sun goes down.  I also put out one of those door-mat-looking pads that plugs into an electrical socket at the Anna location.  It warms up when the cat lays on it.   Those mats are available through PetsMart.  Peg Harris (barn cat volunteer) found them on sale last Spring and we purchased 2 or 3.

November saw us with a total of 45 placements making a total of 467 for 2010.  That is down from last year but we had a cold, snowy winter even into March and a blistering hot summer.  Don’t Mess with Mother Nature!  She always wins.

KEEP WARM and HUG A KITTY EVERY DAY!
