Bad Calls/EMAILS:  Property Being Sold
I put several cats in a barn on Greenville Ave. several years ago.  Because it backs up to a creek, we think there may have been a coyote that got them.  SO – no more cats for you.  Now, the area has changed and the property has been sold.  She put 3 cats out there about a year ago from someone else and now needs a place to put them.  Barn Cats will take them after all the shots are updated and negative test for feline leukemia are done.  It is always something…

BMG:  I Hate People
I took 3 cats from a lady who (I think) was not really truthful with me.  2 of the 3 are FRIENDLY.  There are 200-300 adoption groups in the DFW area so why am I getting these cats?  She “just cannot deal with them any longer.”  “I have tried for a 1 ½ years to get them adopted.”   HUMMMMM – don’t believe that for a minute!   SO – I will try and trade them.  They are NOT barn cats for sure.

OMG:  FREE Spay/Neuter in Fort Worth
Received an email from TCAP (Texas Coalition for Animal Protection) that they have received a grant from the Saving Hope Foundation to do FREE sterilization for cats and dogs between the ages of 10 weeks and 5 years.  You must live in one of the following zip codes:  76109, 76103, 76105, 76106, or 76164.  That is a good deal!  940-566-5551  www.texasforthem.org

RIP – Tinker “Queen of the Cat Rooms”
Tinker came to Barn Cats as part of a hoarder raid that we did in Garland in 2009.  She was semi-feral but too old to put in a barn.  She stayed with us as did Mr. Crinkles who passed away several years ago.  On October 1, 2009, Nancy and I went to a home in Garland of a mother and daughter who at one time had done rescue work.  BUT – it went “downhill”.  They lived together and both were hoarders – I am using the past tense because within a year both had passed away.  We removed 22 from the cluttered home where STUFF was stacked to the ceiling.  The cats were in carriers or rabbit cages stacked one on top of another.  There were unused large cages in the backyard but there was no room for them in the house.  One cat passed away when I got it to my home just from stress.  Six were feral, 3 were semi-feral, and the rest were friendly.  Friendly ones went to adoption groups and the 6 ferals went to the same barn in McKinney.  Mr. Crinkles and Tinker were too old.  The 3rd semi-feral is Rambo who still lives in my cat room.  Tinker was the QUEEN and ruled with a velvet paw.  We will miss her for sure!  RIP Miss Tinker!

Memorial for Christian:  Mr. Ambassador
You know – some kitties you just bond with and that was Christian.  The day after Rebecca passed away (Friday, August 1st) Christian was diagnosed with bone cancer of his lower jaw.  He was drooling and that is why I took him in to see the vet.  The x-rays were disturbing.  BUT – he did not seem to be in any pain.  He was eating but losing weight.  Over the last weekend, he just did not seem to feel well.  So, Monday, August 18, 2014, I put him to sleep.  Several years ago when we had a bunch of kittens from a hoarder, Christian sat next to the cages and “worked” with them.  That is when he gained the title of “Mr. Ambassador”.  I don’t remember him ever being sick – just the nicest boy!  He was a black, long-haired cat that originally came from Denton Animal Services when I was still doing adoptions.  I estimate his age at 15.  His muzzle was flaked with gray but his spirit was young.  I will miss him terribly.  I am sure he is still Mr. Ambassador on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.  RIP, Christian!

“Thanks” for following the Barn Cats Blog.  See you next week.          Peg
